RALEIGH, N.C. (Feb. 15, 2017) —The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission is holding a public hearing on Feb. 28 to take comments on a no-wake zone rule in Clay County.
The hearing, which begins at 10 a.m., will be held on the fifth floor of the Commission’s headquarters, located at 1751 Varsity Drive in Raleigh. Comments also may be submitted in writing through 5 p.m., on April 3, 2017, to betsy.haywood@ncwildlife.org or to Betsy Haywood, N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission,1701 Mail Service Center, Raleigh, N.C. 27699-1701.
The Commission will take comments on extension of a no-wake zone on Lake Chatuge requested by Clay County officials. The current no-wake zone would be extended from the area in the vicinity of the High Bridge on N.C. Highway 175 on Shooting Creek to include the entire creek, shore to shore, where it meets Lake Chatuge southeast of the bridge. Officials are requesting the zone extension because of numerous safety issues, including a narrow channel with underwater rock hazards, limited visibility near the bridge and boat wakes that pose swimming hazards.
The Commission will also take comments for proposed no-wake zones in Perquimans and Pender counties.
