River level and other water quality observations (turbity, etc.):

 

At time of sampling, Tar River was at optimal levels for sampling, and moderately turbid.

 

Weather conditions on sampling date?

 

Warm and partly cloudy.

 

Your observations of other people fishing on the river:

 

There were a few boat anglers fishing downstream of Battle Park and a moderate number of bank anglers fishing at Battle Park.

 

Comments to anglers about your sampling results, and fishing-related conclusions that can be drawn from your data:

 

American Shad will likely be steady in number over the next several weeks, whereas Hickory Shad will likely be decreasing. Striped Bass will likely be increasing in number over the next week. All fish sampled were returned to the river in good condition. The river was at a level that was good for angling, yet becoming a little difficult to maneuver with a boat and will likely be a bit tougher to navigate over the next several days, without additional precipitation.

 

Tar/Pamlico River - Creel Survey Information

Hickory Shad, American shad and Striped Bass were being caught throughout the Tar-Pamlico over the last week. Creel clerks advised that a good number of Striped Bass of harvestable size were measured at the Dunbar access area as well as Striped Bass in the protected slot were noted during the creel interviews. Anglers were also catching catfish and bream in the Tar-Pamlico River.
