UPDATE 09/11/17 - Dove fields are now back open

ELIZABETHTOWN, N.C. (Aug. 31, 2017) – The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission has closed two dove fields on the Bladen Lake State Forest Game Land to hunting until further notice.

The Commission closed the fields due to someone baiting the field prior to the dove season opening, which is illegal. The game land is located in Bladen County near Elizabethtown. The closed dove fields are:

  • Salters Lake Dove Field, located off the dirt road that enters Bladen Lakes State Forest in Yorick on Highway 53. GPS coordinates are N 34.68419, W 78.63033.
  • Powerline Dove Field, located 3 miles off Highway 242. GPS coordinates are N 34.73204, W 78.58965.

Signs are posted at these two fields noting that they are closed.  The signs will be removed and these fields will be opened to public dove hunting once Wildlife Enforcement Officers determine that they can be legally hunted. Anyone who has any knowledge about the illegal baiting is asked to contact the Commission’s Enforcement Division at 800-662-7137. Callers can remain anonymous.
