MARION, N.C. (Sept. 30, 2019) — On Monday, Oct. 14, the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission will close the Black Bear boating access area on Lake James to renovate the parking area and replace a stormwater drainage pipe. The McDowell County boating access area, located on Lake James Road in Marion, will be closed until early November. The nearest alternative boating access area is Linville River, located on N.C. 126 in Nebo.
