Taking Aim at the Statewide Archery Championship

The Commission’s National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) State Tournament took place on Feb. 21-23, 2019 at the Winston Salem Fairgrounds. The 2019 tournament marked the first year that each team in the state competed in a shared location.

“It was nice to see the kids from North Carolina competing in person,” said Lee Scripture, the Commission’s archery education coordinator. “For years, we’ve done a virtual tournament at separate schools, so it was a real change this year. You can really see the work and effort these coaches and students have put forth, and the kids are having a blast.”

A total of 594 archers represented 27 schools from across North Carolina. They were cheered on by more than 1,000 spectators as they shot for the title of North Carolina State Champion.

“Best of luck to all of our winners at this year’s national tournament in Louisville, Ky.,” said Scripture. “We know you’ll make us proud.”
