2017 Striped Bass Season on Roanoke Rivers Opens March 1
The Wildlife Commission will open the entire Roanoke River Management Area to striped bass harvest from March 1 through April 30. The daily creel limit within the Management Area is two striped bass per angler. The minimum length limit is 18 inches, and no striped bass between 22 and 27 inches can be possessed at any time. Only one striped bass larger than 27 inches can be included in the daily creel limit. More
Hatchery Supported Trout Waters Closed to Fishing March 1-31
The Wildlife Commission will close approximately 1,000 miles of Hatchery Supported Trout Waters to fishing one-half hour after sunset on Feb. 28 and reopen them at 7 a.m. on April 1. While fishing is closed, Commission personnel will stock all Hatchery Supported Trout Waters in preparation for opening day. More
Wildlife Commission Sets Regulations for 2017-18 Seasons
On Feb. 16, the Wildlife Commission approved 38 of 39 proposed rule changes related to wildlife management, fisheries, game lands and law enforcement for the 2017-18 seasons. Aug. 1, 2017 is the effective date for regulations. More
Statewide Youth Hunter Education Skills Tournaments Set for March

Black Bear Public Forums to be Held in March
The Commission will hold five public forums (dates and locations) to gather input regarding coastal bear management. Up for discussion are options that would change the current coastal bear hunting seasons to align with the new biological bear management units presented in (See Bear Forum Presentation). The Wildlife Commission’s Turn-in-Poachers program allows concerned citizens to report information on wildlife violations. People who report suspicious activity or provide knowledge related to wildlife poaching violations that results in a conviction could be rewarded. Rewards range from $100 to $1,000, depending on the severity of the crime and the fines assessed by the court. More
