HALIFAX, N.C. (May 31, 2017) — The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission will hold a public meeting on Wednesday, June 7 to seek input in developing a management plan for the Lower Fishing Creek Game Land in Edgecombe and Halifax Counties. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at the Tillery Wildlife Depot (Gold House), located at 868 N.C. 481 in Halifax.
Commission staff will use public input from the meeting to help guide management and user activities on the Lower Fishing Creek Game Land for the next 10 years. This game land is located between Tarboro and Scotland Neck. Four game land tracts (Grammon Road, Leggett North and South and Maple Swamp) encompass 1,296 acres and are popular for deer, turkey and small game hunting opportunities. The Fishing Creek watershed hosts a large diversity of significant state and federally listed aquatic species.
“We are seeking input from all users of the Lower Fishing Creek Game Land and others who are interested in how the property is managed,” said Chris Baranski, the Commission’s Northern Piedmont management biologist. “This meeting is not just for sportsmen. It is for wildlife-watchers, photographers, birders, hikers and other outdoor enthusiasts who have an interest in the game land. The public is encouraged to provide input on desired conditions for various habitats, species and public uses.”
The Commission is also accepting comments and suggestions from people who cannot attend the meeting.
