RALEIGH, N.C. (Feb. 25, 2015) — The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission has rescheduled two public meetings seeking input on the Goose Creek, Chowan Swamp and Chowan game lands.

The meeting for the Chowan Swamp and Chowan game lands is scheduled for March 3 at 7 p.m., at the Merchant’s Millpond State Park Visitors Center, 176 Millpond Road (GPS coordinates: 36.437105, -76.701585). The meeting, originally scheduled for Feb. 16 and rescheduled to Feb. 24, was postponed both times because of inclement weather.

The meeting for the Goose Creek Game Land is scheduled for March 4 from 7-9 p.m. at the Washington Fire-EMS Station 2, located at 2064 W 15th Street, in Washington. It was scheduled originally for Feb. 18.

Wildlife Commission staff will use public input from the meetings to help guide management and user activities on game lands for the next 10 years. Chowan Swamp Game Land is located in Bertie, Gates and Hertford counties and encompasses more than 30,000 acres along the Chowan River. Chowan Game Land is located in Chowan County and encompasses 30 acres next to U.S. 17 and Pembroke Creek. Goose Creek Game Land is located in Beaufort and Pamlico counties, adjacent to the Pamlico River, and encompasses more than 7,000 acres.

“We are seeking input from all users of the game lands and others who are interested in how the properties are managed,” said Lands Program Manager Isaac Harrold. “This meeting is not just for hunters and anglers. It is for wildlife watchers and photographers, birding groups, hikers, and others who have interest in Goose Creek Game Land, Chowan Swamp Game Land or Chowan Game Land. Everyone is encouraged to provide input.”

The Commission also will accept comments and suggestions from people who cannot attend the meeting.
