TROY, N.C. (June 30, 2017) — The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission has completed construction and opened the Uwharrie River public fishing area located at 300 Dennis Rd. in Troy.
The public fishing area includes a 12-by-20-foot fishing platform pier and a paddle craft launching area at the mouth of Dutchman’s Creek on the Uwharrie Game Land. It also features an expanded gravel parking lot with a maneuver area, 20 spaces for single cars, an ADA-compliant parking space and a trailer loading/unloading area.
“This new public fishing area will give local anglers the opportunity to catch a wide variety of species,” said Troy Thompson, the Commission’s fisheries biologist. “People can expect to catch largemouth bass, black crappie, sunfish and catfish, just to name a few.”
The project was funded with fishing license receipts and Sport Fish Restoration Program funds. The land was acquired with funding from the Clean Water Management Trust Fund and the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service.
