NORTH WILKESBORO, N.C. (April 28, 2016) — The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission has cancelled the final spring stocking of trout in the delayed harvest section of the Reddies River in North Wilkesboro.
The stocking, which was scheduled for May 3, has been cancelled because the Town of North Wilkesboro will begin dredging sediment from its water supply reservoir located upstream of the delayed harvest section of the river in early May. Work is expected to take two to three weeks, during which time the river below the reservoir likely will be muddy, possibly impacting angling activity.
If the work goes as planned, river conditions should be back to normal by the first Saturday in June when the harvest season on Delayed Harvest waters begins.
“While we regret the temporary loss of fishing opportunities on the Reddies River, we understand that these occasional sediment removals are necessary to maintain the Town’s water intake capacity,” said Kin Hodges, a district fisheries biologist with the Commission. “We’re happy to be able to partner with the Town of North Wilkesboro to provide public trout fishing opportunities at this location.”
