BREVARD, N.C. (May 30, 2014) — The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission’s Pisgah Center for Wildlife Education is seeking volunteers to help with programs and to accommodate increased seasonal visitation.
Many of the volunteer functions require no previous experience. Training will be provided. Volunteer positions include:
Master Anglers, to provide guidance and instruction in fishing programs;
Raceway Monitors, to answer questions about the trout hatchery; and,
Maintenance Assistance, for mowing, garden and facility upkeep.
“The Pisgah Center for Wildlife Education is an ideal setting for drop-in visitors and pre-registered program participants alike,” said Melinda Patterson, center director. “To help everyone enjoy a fulfilling experience, we need help from the community to serve as volunteers. I think the volunteer opportunities can be rewarding and a great way to give back to conservation and outdoor recreation.”

The Pisgah Center for Wildlife Education is located near Brevard, just south of Asheville, alongside the Davidson River in Transylvania County. The center offers free admission, with a busy schedule of hands-on programs and conservation activities. Features include aquariums representing different aquatic habitats, nature trails and the neighboring Bobby N. Setzer Fish Hatchery, where trout are raised in 54 raceways.
