RALEIGH, N.C. (Oct. 16, 2017) — The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission has partnered with the N.C. Tree Farm Program to enroll three state-owned game lands as Tree Farm Demonstration Forests. These game lands will be designated areas that demonstrate strong forest management techniques and ecology. Game lands to be enrolled this fiscal year are Johns River in Burke County, Embro in Halifax and Warren counties and Suggs Mill Pond in Bladen and Cumberland counties.
A formal Memorandum of Agreement between the Commission and the N.C. Tree Farm Program was signed and executed at the Program’s annual meeting in Scotland County on Saturday.
“We look forward to a mutually beneficial partnership between the Commission and the N.C. Tree Farm Program,” said Chris Jordan, the Commission’s game lands and forest resources manager. “Together, we will advance our common goals of wildlife conservation and sustainable science-based forest management.
The N.C. Tree Farm Program’s mission is to promote the stewardship of sustainable natural resource management (wood, water, wildlife and recreation) and the benefits of forest certification through education, professional contact, peer mentoring and recognition programs.
