Pechmann Center Offers Outdoor Recreation Workshops in May

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (April 16, 2019) – The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission’s John E. Pechmann Fishing Education Center is offering free workshops for people of all ages and skill levels in May. Online registration is required for the workshops, which are open on a first-come, first-served basis.

May 4 – Beginning Fly-Tying Workshop from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Open to ages 12 and older. Students 15 years old and under must be accompanied by an adult.

May 4 – Kayak Fishing Workshop from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Open to ages 14 and older. Students 15 years old and under must be accompanied by an adult.

May 11 – A Bear Goes Fishing Adventure from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Cub Scouts will learn about fishing, local regulations and three different species of fish. Den leaders should contact Tom Carpenter at 910-868-5003 to pre-register.

May 15 – Soft Plastics Lure Making Workshop from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Open to all ages.

May 16 – Intermediate Fly-Casting Workshop from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Open to ages 13 and older. Students 15 years old and under must be accompanied by an adult.

May 17 – Family Fishing Workshop from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Open to families with children ages 7 and older. 

May 18 – Game & Outdoor Cooking Workshop from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Open to ages 16 and older.

May 21 and May 22 – Basic Boater’s Weather and Forecasting Course from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. nightly. Open to ages 16 and older.

May 23 – Fly-tying Forum from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Open to ages 10 and older. Students 15 years old and under must be accompanied by an adult.

The John E. Pechmann Fishing Education Center is located at 7489 Raeford Road in Fayetteville, across from Lake Rim. The Pechmann Center offers fishing workshops, events and clinics throughout the year. Most programs are free and open to the public.
