FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (Oct. 29, 2013) — The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission is offering free, wildlife-related workshops in November and December at the John E. Pechmann Fishing Education Center in Fayetteville.  Most programs are free and open to the public. The schedule includes:

• Nov. 14 – Lure-Making Class from 6:30-9 p.m. The workshop covers the fundamentals of creating artificial worms, lizards, crayfish and other soft plastic baits. Participants will create multiple lures to take home. 
• Nov. 15 – Project WILD Workshop from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. This workshop is for adults interested in teaching young people about wildlife. Participants receive the Project WILD K-12 educator guide along with materials specifically about North Carolina wildlife. The educator guide contains more than 150 hands-on activities that focus on wildlife and natural resources. Public school teachers may receive CEU credit, and the workshop qualifies for Component I of the N.C. Office of Environmental Education Certification program. Pre-registration is required. • Nov. 19 – Fly-Tying Forum from 6:30-9 p.m. Held every third Tuesday of the month, this workshop provides instruction on advanced fly-tying techniques. The November workshop focuses on patterns for saltwater fish. Participants are encouraged to bring their own equipment; however, equipment and materials will be provided upon request. Completion of the basic fly-tying workshop is a prerequisite to the Fly-Tying Forum. Pre-registration is required.
• Dec. 4, 5, 6 – Basic Fly-Tying Course from 6:30- 9:30 p.m. This 3-day basic skills workshop for adults (16 years and older) will cover the fundamentals of tying flies. It is the prerequisite course for the Fly-Tying Forum. Due to space constraints, the class is limited to 15 participants and pre-registration is recommended.
• Dec. 17 – Fly-Tying Forum from 6:30-9 p.m. Held every third Tuesday of the month, this workshop provides instruction on advanced fly-tying techniques. Patterns for the December Fly-Tying Forum have not been identified yet. Participants are encouraged to bring their own equipment; however, equipment and materials will be provided upon request. Completion of the basic fly-tying workshop is a prerequisite to the Fly-Tying Forum.
• Dec. 18 – Lanyard-Making Workshop from 9-10 a.m. Participants will construct their lanyards from items that are commonly found at most retailers. Materials, such as scissors, line snips and forceps for hook removal, are provided. These make great gifts for anglers on a holiday gift-giving list. Pre-registration is recommended.

Registration for four troutfly-fishing clinics, which begin in January, opens Dec. 2. Registration fortrout fly-fishing clinics for Boy Scout troops also opens Dec. 2. Dates for the Boy Scout clinics are March 1 and 15. The Wildlife Commission has designed thetrout fly-fishing clinic to meet all requirements for scouts to earn a Fishing Merit Badge.
