WELDON, N.C. (April 27, 2016) — The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission reminds anglers that the entire Roanoke River Management Area will close to striped bass harvest on April 30, as scheduled by regulation. The Roanoke River Management Area includes the Roanoke River and tributaries from Roanoke Rapids Lake Dam downstream to Albemarle Sound, including the Cashie, Middle and Eastmost rivers.
Commission biologists project the harvest quota of 68,750 pounds for the Roanoke River Management Area will be met by April 30. Staff monitor harvest throughout the season by interviewing anglers at boating access areas throughout the Roanoke River Management Area.
From April 1 through June 30, anglers are required to use a single barbless hook or a lure with a single barbless hook when fishing in the upper Roanoke River. The upper Roanoke River is defined as the main river channel and all tributaries, upstream from the U.S. Highway 258 Bridge near Scotland Neck to Roanoke Rapids Lake Dam.
Through the end of May, the Commission is posting online weekly fisheries reports from the Roanoke River, along with the Tar, Neuse and Cape Fear rivers. The reports are supplemented with information on striped bass fishing and boating access areas.
