The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission follows our Merit Based Recruitment and Selection Plan to select highly qualified individuals to work here. We post advertisements for vacant positions as they occur. Vacancies will be posted for at least five business days. Positions may be advertised as full-time or part-time and permanent, temporary or time-limited.

The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission accepts applications for positions that are actively under recruitment through the new Online Job Application System found at the Office of State Human Resources website.  Each vacancy announcement will list the minimum education and experience requirements for the position, along with the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. You must meet or exceed those requirements in order to be considered for a position. 

When you identify a position under recruitment for which you meet the minimum requirements, complete and submit an online application using the new Online Job Application System.  Although a resume can accompany an application, the information contained on the application is the primary source of information when we evaluate and select applicants.   The application you complete represents an opportunity to highlight your experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities and to demonstrate how they relate to the advertised position. Only the most highly qualified applicants are selected for interviews.

Applying for vacant positions has been made easier with the new Online Job Application System found at Office of State Personnel website (the preferred method) however, we can accept application that are faxed or mailed. We do not accept emailed applications. Job announcements include a closing date after which we accept no applications to the job. Please ensure that your application is received by the Personnel Office no later than 5:00 pm on the closing date.

Applicants to all positions except enforcement officer receive a postcard acknowledging receipt of their application. Qualifications documented on the application are measured against the requirements of the position. Only the most highly qualified applicants are selected for interviews. Applicants who have been interviewed will be notified after a hiring decision has been made.

Positions in law enforcement have a separate recruiting and selection process. You are not required to have any law enforcement certification prior to applying, as successful applicants will complete a 19 week wildlife enforcement officers basic training school at the North Carolina Justice Academy in Salemburg, NC.  We can accept applications for Wildlife Enforcement Officers only when there is a vacancy announcement. We can accept applications only during the period the opening is posted.

Starting salaries are determined after considering factors that include budgetary considerations, your experience, the requirements of the position, equity with current employees, the salary grade of the position and the salary range associated with that grade. The salary grade and associated salary range are listed on each vacancy announcement. Additional information on the salary ranges can be found on the Office of State Personnel Web site.
